About the Author
Zhuomin M. Zhang has taught at the University of Florida (1995-2002) and the Georgia Institute of Technology (since 2002). Professor Zhang is an ASME Fellow and has done cutting-edge research in the areas of micro/nanoscale heat transfer, with applications to optoelectronic devices and semiconductor manufacturing. He is a recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), the ASME Heat Transfer Division Best Paper Award, and the AIAA Thermophysics Best Paper Award. Professor Zhang currently serves on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Thermophysics and is an associate editor for the Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy & Radiative Transfer and the Journal of Thermophysics and Heat Transfer.

Great introduction, poor binding

So far the book is good at introducing the core concepts needed to study nanoscale heat transfer, including quantum mechanics, statistical thermodynamics, and electron/phonon transport. As this is my first class that covers these topics, I can't compare to other books covering these topics, but as a mechanical engineer, this book has been a good introduction. The only thing that this book lacks is a good binding. I've been using it for approximately two months now, about two to three times a week and the glue holding together the front cover is beginning to give way. It hasn't ruined the value of the book, but it is bothersome that this has already started to occur.

Very clear

Excellent textbook! All of the derivations are laid out, step-by-step, and it's very clear where everything came from. Good notation, good explanations. There isn't much in the way of motivating examples, but but as a grad level text book, it's one of the better ones I've used.

Good introductory text for nanoscale heat transfer

Very good introductory text to the topic of nanoscale heat transfer. The book builds up as any lecturer would, starting at the fundamental basics, building towards more complex concepts at the end.
The only topic I am really missing is microscale convective heat exchange, as this is considerably different and not well understood compared to the more well known ones. As a PhD candidate with a background in mechanical/aerospace engineering, this book offers an introduction that is easy to understand, as long as you are willing to put in the effort fo reading it from front to back.

I agree with the comments of Owen Sullivan and Aaron Alpert, although my copy has no issues with the binding.
