Didn't find helpful for PE review

After having the book for over a couple weeks and not using it for a single reason while studying for the POWER PE, I've decided to return it. It's not worth $130 in my mind. Sure, it has some good stuff in it, but that's a lot of money for a book that I may never use again. I honestly don't think it would help during the test, and if I'm at home or at work I can easily find better information in a different reference book or online. I should also note, I TRIED, MANY TIMES to use it to look up topics while studying but it was completely useless, in my opinion. I'm sure somebody can find it useful, but not I. Hope this helps you out.

Tables are just scanned from printed version and unreadable

I tried the preview on the Kindle for iPad app, and it was barely useable at best. The tables were just scanned from the printed version, in a resolution that rendered the tables unusable when enlarged to be readable. The few graphics I saw were OK though.

Note to Amazon.com: turn up the resolution when scanning images from the printed version for use in the Kindle version. A table that is enlarged so the text is of readable size ness to be, well, readable.

Great book for certain aspects

Great book with heaps of detail towards Heavy Electrical and theory, slightly touches on building services but dont expect great details on electronics or communications etc. Covers instruments quite well, bits are easy to understand and other parts are worded unusually, maybe this is because the aurthors are from other countries with slightly different technical vocabulary (to were i am from), or maybe they just want to sound smart. Anyways well worth a buy as your bound to use it every now and again, good diagrams lots of interesting stuff.

Great Explanation & Concrete Examples of Asset Allocation

I was pretty impressed with this book. I give it an A+.

I have been a student of investing and financial planning since 1979. In 1978, when Venita VanCaspel's book The New Money Dynamics was published, the term "asset allocation" was not even listed in the index of financial terms. She doesn't really mention asset allocation between asset classes and any benefits of asset allocation.

Gary Brinson's 1986 famous study can be defined as the birth of asset allocation. He found that over 90% of a portfolio's return can be determined by the asset classes used, not what the individual investments were. Brinson's findings have been relatively slow to flow through the investment community and to individual investors. Dial the time clock ahead from 1986 to 2006, and one of Business Week's cover stories seeks to explain why the S&P 500's profits have increased dramatically over the last 5 years, yet the S&P 500 companies have had very little stock price appreciation. One explanation offered is that more and more investors practice asset allocation and choose other investments besides the S&P 500 for their portfolios. The increased demand for other asset classes like foreign stocks, commodities, and gold has subsequently less to a decrease in demand for large cap stocks in the S&P 500.

Ferri's book does an excellent job of explaining the concept of asset allocation and he uses real life portfolios to illustrate the advantages of asset allocation.

Ferri points out the ideal investments to add to one's portfolio would be negatively correlated to the investments in the existing portfolio. He also points out that the correlations between asset classes changes over time. If an investor keeps many different asset classes in his portfolio, the investor can take advantage of these changing correlations over time.

All-in-all, a great book for learning the concept of asset allocation. I would suggest companion books to supplement this book including The Richest Man in Babylon, Bogle on Mutual Funds, The Millionaire Next Door, The 4 Pillars of Investing, A Random Walk Down Wall Street, and the Coffeehouse Investor.

All About Asset Allocation

My fee-only financial planner recommended that I read this book in preparation for my annual review of investments. He offered to buy back the book if I was dissatisfied. I found the book valuable and therefore did not take him up on his offer.

I appreciated Ferri's clear explanation of the concepts of asset allocation accompanied by plenty of data tables and graphs. I also found his technique of limiting each chapter to three or four topics and stating them both and the beginning and end of the chapter very helpful in reviewing what I had learned.

Although the topic is complex, Ferri kept his text at the layperson level. It definitely gave me a better understanding of the Modern Portfolio theory principles my financial planner was following in determing my personal asset allocation.

Although I have the services of a planner, the book provides enough information for the do-it-yourself type to set up their own plan based on the principles of the book. A particularly nice touch is a list of funds that meet specific asset allocation goals at the end of each chapter explaining that asset class.

This latest book from Richard Ferri, CFA, has all the elements needed to help an investor develop and implement an asset allocation strategy. The book covers the nuts and bolts and provides lots of supporting graphics. In addition, the author provides recommended portfolios for those in various stages of the investment cycle, as well as for investors with varying degrees of risk tolerance (aggressive, moderate or conservative). This book has something for both novices and more sophisticated investors alike. It's a winner!

Encyclopedic coverage of breadth indicators

If you want to know what other people have said about market breadth indicators, this book contains a good encyclopedic coverage. This can be valuable if that is what you are looking for. The book also provides some synthesis, e.g. the author groups different indicators based on their similaries.

However, the author doesn't try much to go further than this. There is no serious test of what works and what doesn't work. Had the author pushed himself a bit further in providing a synthesis I would have dished out four stars.

I have written several short reviews on trading books. The best way is to compare the score on the books I've read. Many reviews on amazon.com are just glorious 5 star reviews. I use all five categories; sorry but everything isn't "great". Books rated 5 are very good. Books rated 4 are good solid books well worth reading. Books rated 3 can be bought by some people who read a lot or have very specific needs. Books rated 1 or 2 I would not recommend buying or reading. Naturally all in my humble opinion.

Really rather a good (make that excellent) book

Mr. Morris compactly covers every imaginable use of New Highs, New Lows, Up Volume, Down Volume, Advancing Issues and Declining Issues. All, that is, except the one his book inspired me to write.

Presented is the construction, how the originator of the idea envisions it use, Mr. Morris' thoughts as a result of using or at least working with the indicator and a chart showing what you should expect to see. I found Mr. Morris' remarks, cautious though they might have been, to be surprisingly useful.

If you don't already know all there is to know about breadth indicators, you may well profit from this book. My only problem is how to write the code to turn a couple of the items presented in the book, along with my variation, into a system. That will require only time and effort and, I am sure will repay the time and capital I put into the book by several orders of magnitude.

Probably a good book for the professional trader ??, but not a good book for the individual investor. The summary for each breath indicator is clearly explained, but direction of the charts are unclear.

Not too much, not too little

This book is about right for a new project manager or a small project (hopefully these would both go together but so often it does not). It is also quite useful for an experienced project manager of a smaller project looking for that line that separates the least amount of control from sheer negligence. This book is a little heavier than that, but still pretty light.

It is not quite as useful as the Dummies series in terms of a full service solution but really, despite the titles, those are not for novices. This book has a reasonable enough approach and reasonable enough templates to implement it.

The drawback I found was that the author uses relatively trivial illustrative "projects" so that newbie can understand the principles without getting hung up on details. The problem is even as a trained project manager the examples of PM applied to such simple things as "weekend at the country cabin" projected precisely the image of absurd over-control that is the thing that frightens PM opponents in the first place. For a real newbie, it could even more scary because if that is what you have to do for something so obviously simple, how much overhead goes with a real project?

That is really a minor quibble, though. Just Right

I was looking for a good basic book to recommend to some PM-phobic coworkers and found the Idiot's and Dummie's editions rather pale and useless.

I especially appreciate Cook's emphasis on using just the right amount of PM and not letting the PM process overwhelm the actual work!

This book was exactly what I was looking for. Not too PMBOK-heavy and not too dimwit-light.

Fun book to read with decent explanations

First of all let me say, THIS BOOK IS FUN! the author has a great sence of humor and keeps the content interesting by turning a boring subject into a comedy. I recommend this book for beginners - intermediate. Covers content related to construction trades. The explanations are simplistic and easy to follow. It covers many areas that in the beginning one might find difficulty with. Such as understanding the diffence between Estar and Ser. It covers mostly present tense but also introduces you to other tenses later on. Also shows conjugations, and gives good examples.

I have purchased many español books in the last year. and i would buy this again. But i would make this one of my first books, as it dives in from the beginning and leaves you at the end with tenses.

Again this is a very fun book the author will give you a good luagh through-out the book, and make the journey of learning more enjoyable.

Great beginner book, and especially if you deal with any facet of contruction.

It has it's positives

The methods used in this book are pretty good for a jump-start to learning basic Spanish. Example: The book suggest when conjugating verbs to use the imperfect
form instead of the preterite form (for past tense) because there are fewer conjugations in that form and far less irregularities. The grammar's not right but you'll be understood.

The problem I have with the book is how it stereotypes construction workers as if they are all a bunch of neanderthals. I do sports that involve mixing with people of a lot of different professions and (with few exceptions) without some kind of hint like a uniform, suit or expensive car, you would not be able to guess the type of work that people do, be it attorney, policeman or laborer.

This book does exactly what it says it does, but make sure you have realistic expectations. You can't just read this cover to cover and immediately start communicating at an effective level. Flashcards are crucial if you hope to get any real value from the book.

I just got the book and as promised by Amazon 3-4 weeks of delivery across the ocean.

I have not finished the whole Guide but it is already guiding me how to use WorkOut not only for Six Sigma but for other things in my organisation that need WorkOut.

Six Sigma is something we heard often but not many successfully implement it. I am confident that this guide without any other professional help can prepare us for the Task ahead.

I provide a copy to lean leaders and six sigma Green Belts and Black Belts that I develop on a regular basis. I enjoy this book. this is the book only but you can get some type of audio that goes with the book, but i have no clue where. if you don't have any knowledge of the language then I would try and find some audio to familiarize yourself with the way letters sound because its tricky trying to make sense of the examples in the book.

Finnish is difficult.

I used this book to familiarize myself with basic grammar and a few dozen words. Having the tapes as well would have been better.

It is okay, I thought it came with a CD, but it didn't, once agian I didn't do my homework, the only way to learn a language with a book is too have a learning CD and the words, helps much better!
